A Compact Substation (CSS) is utilized for energy transformation in the secondary distribution network, converting from Medium Voltage (MV) to Low Voltage (LV). These substations are typically installed in locations accessible to the public and ensure protection for all, in accordance with specified service conditions. The substation is compact in size, suitable for frequent relocation, and designed for use in outdoor environments.
The substation is installed and mounted on a skid frame or wheels (Mobile) or channels (Stationary) and is equipped with lifting hooks. It is a compact enclosure consisting of MV Switchgear, Transformer, and LV Switchgear, located in segregated compartments from each other by partitions to ensure personnel safety.
Modular Compact Substations may be Mobile or Stationary. CSS offers several advantages over conventional substations, including space savings, easy installation, maintenance-free operation, easy accessibility, and ensuring safety and aesthetics.

The enclosure is typically divided into three compartments for the medium-voltage switchgear, low voltage switchboard, and transformer. All standard modules of compartments, doors, and ceilings are produced using roller-formed sections.
The detachable roof with ventilation openings is supported by a beam and secured to the corner sections with bolts. Standard doors are fitted with handles and bolts for padlocks. The doors are closed by means of a two-point device, which secures the door to the top frame and the base frame. The doors are fitted with stainless steel hinges and door stoppers.
The wall and roof modules are assembled by means of a self-locking mechanism.
